During the Highlights of Slovakia tour, you have a chance to get an inside glimpse into Slovakia’s most stunning locations. No tour of Slovakia would be complete without a visit to Bratislava – the only capital city in the world bordering two independent countries! Bearing the scars of the turbulent 20th century, Bratislava offers a unique combination of architecture – medieval old town with churches, cathedral and narrow cobbled streets in contrast with majestic buildings in style of socialist realism. We will not skip any major highlight of this beautiful city.
We will guide you through two several sites listed in the World UNESCO Heritage. First, we visit the completely preserved medieval town of Banská Štiavnica. During the underground excursion in the mines, we experience the history of gold and silver mining. Afterwards, we explore the wooden church in Hronsek. Probably the most beautiful UNESCO site in Slovakia are Spiš Castle and a nearby medieval town of Levoča with the tallest wooden altar in the world. You will then try one of the best folk attractions of Slovakia – rafting on traditional wooden rafts of lumberjacks in the National Park of Pieniny.
Another highlight of the tour is the city of Banská Bystrica – the center of Slovak National Uprising during the WWII. Don‘t forget to take photos when walking around the amazing collection of tanks, guns, and uniforms in the museum of WWII. As we will move to the east of the country you will fall in love with the Orava Castle, the mysterious castle, where the world-famous movie Nosferatu – Symphony of Horror, depicting the story of Dracula, was shot.
We also travel to the National Park of Low Tatras to visit Demänovska Cave of Liberty, the most beautiful cave in Slovakia. Not far away from there is an intact typical Slovak village of Vlkolinec, another jewel in the UNESCO List. Slovakia’s got famous for the high mountains called the High Tatras. We make a stop in Štrbské Pleso, the highest located mountain settlement in Slovakia and take a walk around the glacial lake.
On our way back to the Western Slovakia we visit Nitra and Sered, two towns where history was written. Nitra is the oldest town in Slovakia and a place where the first Christian church in the Central Europe was built. Sered is a home of the only remaining concentration camp from the WWII in Slovakia.
